Alexander is a 50 year old Russian artist whose work is based on his photos made by digital camera. JD Jarvis, critic and MOCA contributing editor, notes that Alexander's work shows a high quality mastery of both photography and the manipulation of those photos using Photoshop. Jarvis continues, "Many artists are doing this sort of work these days and it takes a very special vision to stand out from the crowd. [Alexander's] work stands out. [It] reminds me of fashion photography taken into the realm of Surrealism. Even though the the scenes appear brightly lit, there is a sense of something eerie and dark in them. Mysterious..." Others have noted the quixotic humor. The artist's command of English may be marginal, but MOCA has used the titles exactly as provided by the artist.
